Brazilian Fundamentalist Baptist Mission
BRAZILIAN FUNDAMENTALIST BAPTIST MISSION Rua Aluísio de Azevedo, 604 - Pinhais - PR - 83321.270 - BRAZIL (South America)
mbbf@mbbf.org.br In 1998, Missionary Allan Mercer, who works in Hazyview, South Africa his friend Steve Pittman, who at the time was serving with Baptist Mid-Missions in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. He asked help with a very special situation. Some National Pastores from Mozabique contacted Allen Mercer in South Africa and asked for help. There was just one problem: They only spoke Portugese and he only spoke English. At a pastor´s meeting held at the Igreja Batista da Paz in Rose Galvão (Peace Baptist Church), located in Pinhais, Paraná, Brazil, BMM Missionary Steve Pittmann challenged our Brazilian pastores to help those pastores asking for help in Mozambique. In July 1999, our Brazilian churches sent eight (8) missionaries and pastores:both American and Brazilian. On our survey trip, we wanted to see how we could help these pastors and see what type would could offer. While they were there, they started talking to goverment officials to see what steps would be necessary to send missionaries to that county. On that first survey trip, Rev. Divino Amorim (Currently our missionary in Mozambique); Rev. V. W. Peters (currently the South American Director for Baptist Mid-Missions in Cleveland, Ohio; Rev. Steve Pittmann (currently aProfessor at Piedmont Bible College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Rev. Bob Thompson (currently a Representive for Bibles Internationals, Grand Rapids, Michigan); and Rev. Paul Bondezan (current President of the Brazilian Fundamental Baptist Missions in Curitiba, Brazil). The trip to Mozambique took place in June of 1999, with 8 team members made up of both American missionaries and Brazilian pastors. On that first survey trip was Pr. Divino G. Amorim. He is now serving in Mozambique as our first missionaries. When the pastors returned to Brazil, they started making plans to organize a Brazilian Missions to send missioanies to Mozambique and other countries. On November 25, 2000, 32 pastores met at Igreja Batista Salem (Salem Baptist Church) in Pinhais, Curitiba and organized the Brazilian Fundamental Baptist Mission. Two more survey trips were made to Mozambique to get our newly formed mission organized so that we could send our first missionaries to that country. When the mission agency was first organized in 2000, its main purpose was start churches in the Southern three states of Brazil and Portugese speaking countries. This was our goal because of the lack of Fundamental Baptist Churches in these regions. 1. Brazil; 2. Portugal; 3. Cabo Verde; 4. Guiné-Bissau; 5. São Tomé e Príncipe; 6. Angola; 7. Moçambique; 8. Timor Leste These goals through th eyears have been amplifed. Today MBBF can work in all regions of Brazil and in other countries. Today, MBBF has a governing board of 35 counselors/ pastors. They are divided into two distinct groups: the exective committee and the Advisory Committee. The Exective committe is made of of 20 votig pastors, and the the Advisory committe is made up of other pastors. All the counselors all all Pastors or leaders from Fundamental Baptist Churches. The exective committe elects its directors every other year. These leaders of the mission are the Presidente, the Vice-Presidente, the Executive Secretary , two secretaries, and two treasurers.
